The Little Rock Police Department reported two homicides and a fatal hit-and-run over the last week.

On Thursday, July 25, LRPD officers responded to a 3:37 p.m. shooting call at 2124 Labette Manor Drive where they found Elijah Tolbert, 23, suffering from gunshot wounds, according to an LRPD release. Emergency responders took Tolbert to a hospital where he died from his injuries. An investigation is underway and no further details have been released.

On Friday, July 26, LRPD officers responded to an 11:10 a.m. hit-and-run at 6601 Stagecoach Road, where medical responders informed them that the victim was dead, according to a LRPD release. Police were unable to identify the victim at the scene. An investigation is underway and no further details have been released. (According to a study released earlier this year by an urban planning nonprofit, the Little Rock metro area has one of the highest per capita pedestrian fatality rates in the country.)

On Saturday, July 27, LRPD officers responded to a 9:01 p.m. shooting call at 6600 Lancaster Rd., where they found Xavier Sanders, 20, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, according to a LRPD release. Sanders died at the scene.

“A short time later, officers were approached by an unknown juvenile who stated he was who they were looking for,” the release said. The individual was questioned and then later released by police, pending further investigation.

In a post on Twitter, LRPD asked anyone with information regarding the homicide to call the major crimes division at (501) 371-4660.

The deaths of Tolbert and Sanders mark the 23rd and 24th homicides in Little Rock this year so far, according to the city’s official count.
