Since 2017, Central Arkansas nonprofit summer camp Trust Tree has been putting rock ānā roll instruments and art supplies in the hands of girls and queer youth ages 8-18 with the express purpose of catching early the self-limiting beliefs imposed by a tough world and replacing them with a more expansive idea of what’s possible, both artistically and otherwise.
If empowering the next generation of women and gender-nonconforming songwriters, artists and leaders sounds like a cause you’d like to get behind, the organization is hosting a fundraiser at Little Rock’s Museum of Discovery (500 President Clinton Ave.) aptly called Discover Trust Tree on Saturday, July 13. The event runs from 7-10 p.m. and features heavy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, a dance party and ā most importantly ā performances by spirited campers who’ve caught the music bug. The museum’s exhibits will also be open for wandering.
Tickets are free for kids 18 and under, and the cost of admission is on a sliding scale from $20-$50 for adults, with proceeds going toward camp scholarships and instruments for young people in need of financial assistance. Get tickets here.
