The “Night Shift” of Marvin, Jackie et al. now has one of the Pointer Sisters join ’em. June Pointer died Tuesday of cancer at age 52. She’d been hospitalized in L.A. since February.
Certainly you remember such Pointer Sister hits as “I’m So Excited,” the Bruce Springsteen-penned “Fire” and “Slow Hand” (no, not about Eric Clapton).
Anita and Ruth Pointer, along with Ruth’s daughter, still perform as the Pointer Sisters. Oldest sister Bonnie left for a solo career in 1977. June was the youngest of the four sisters, who recorded their first record in 1973.
An alert reader also points out that the Pointers are originally from Prescott, and moved to Oakland, Calif., in grade school. The family patriarch became pastor of a church in Oakland.
