Kream Kastle Drive Inn, the legendary walk-up diner that has been serving up burgers, ice cream and fried pickles to Ten Mile Creek swimmers and Highway 70 commuters between Hot Springs and Benton for decades, will reopen on Wednesday.
The greasy spoon and living fossil — as Arkansas Times contributor Guy Lancaster described it in 2019 — shut down sometime last summer. Many of the restaurant’s fans took to Facebook to express sadness about the unexpected closure and write about their experiences eating there over the years.
Kevin Shalin of The Mighty Rib food blog reported earlier this month that the owners of Benton’s Salem Dairy Bar would be taking over the iconic spot at 15922 U.S. Highway 70 in Benton.
Arkansas food author Kat Robinson sent a text to Eat Arkansas this morning saying that the restaurant’s soft(serve) opening went well last night.
Mysaline.com reported on Tuesday that new owner Heather Queen posted to social media that she’s looking for customers to “pack the house” when it opens up at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Seems like a safe bet that it won’t be a slow lunch.
