Summit Utilities, the gas company accused of overcharging its customers last winter, says lower costs for natural gas this year could mean cheaper bills for customers.
Though bills reportedly came in at double, triple or quadruple regular prices last winter, the Arkansas Public Service Commission found in August the company was acting reasonably. The commission noted that the high prices were really because of the expensive price Summit had to pay for natural gas, as Summit Utilities execs had explained before the investigation.
The Arkansas Public Service Commission adjusts the utility’s residential gas prices twice a year, once on Nov. 1 and again on April 1. This year, the seasonal price is set at $0.7977 per 100 cubic feet of gas, which is down about 35% from last year’s rate.
Freezing temperatures are already upon us, so here’s to hoping this winter will be a bit more financially manageable than last.
