“Action/Abstraction Redefined” features 36 artists and over 50 works of art from the Institute of American Indian Arts’ permanent collection across the movements of abstract expressionism, color field and hard-edge painting, showing how Native artists culled inspiration from traditional designs while co-creating and responding to new waves of artistic expression.

Arkansas printmaker and professor Evan Lindquist dies at 87
Lindquist’s influential works were called “metaphors of the mind” by one reviewer. The Salina, Kansas, native was named Arkansas’s first Artist Laureate in 2013, and taught art at Arkansas State University for 40 years. Lindquist excelled outside of the classroom as well as in it; he was a renowned figure on the landscape of American printmaking, and his works are in permanent collections across the world.
Submissions for AMFA’s ‘Delta Triennial’ open in January
The submission period for “Delta Triennial” is Jan. 1 through Feb. 11, and artists born or living in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas are eligible.
